Maintenance Trainee positions. As an extra-help Maintenance Trainee, you'll be an essential part of our Parks Division, working under direct supervision to carry out a diverse range of maintenance tasks, from routine duties and assisting with projects. The current vacancies are within the
Parks Facilities Maintenance and
Urban Forestry sections of the Parks Division.
These are part-time extra-help positions. WHAT YOU’LL DOParks Facilities MaintenanceThis position will perform maintenance tasks at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Responsibilities include washing decks, vacuuming and sweeping pools, cleaning tiles, wiping down tables, cleaning debris, checking pool chemicals, and conducting equipment maintenance.
Urban ForestryThis position will primarily drive a City vehicle along a designated water route, filling water bags for newly planted trees, ensuring trees are properly staked, and conducting light weeding of tree wells.
Duties may also include, but are not limited to, the following:- Daily opening and closing of City parks, including weekends, performing routine groundskeeping & maintenance duties with the City's tree/parks/facilities crew. May drive City trucks.
- Park maintenance, trash removal, and use of garden tools, such as rakes and shovels, mowers, edgers, weed whackers, string trimmers, and blowers.
- Working with the City's Parks crew performing routine maintenance tasks, including the use of hand and power tools, operating tractors, trucks, chippers, and chipper trucks.
- Working at the Ventura Aquatic Center, collecting water samples, performing field analysis of samples; collecting samples by hand and servicing automatic sampling units at the Ventura Aquatic Center; performing numerous routine measurements on water.
- Performing routine site inspections, cleaning, pool and equipment maintenance, and safe chemical handling practices.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONSCombination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Desirable: related experience and knowledge of common tools used in landscape maintenance and plant care, and the operation of small-motorized equipment.
Ability to: Perform the physical requirements of the position; learn to safely and effectively operate a variety of equipment.
License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license and an acceptable drivers record, or ability to obtain driver license prior to appointment, may be required.

Temporary Appointment Status: Extra-Help : May work up to 999 hours per fiscal year.
Limited-Term : May work over 999 hours per fiscal year up to 18 months.
Extended-Term : May work over 999 hours per fiscal year 18 months - 3 year maximum.
Direct Deposit: Paychecks are automatically deposited into employee bank accounts.

Retirement: In lieu of Social Security, Temporary, Extra-help employees who are
