    Job Summary

    Under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Center for Community Engagement, the Community Engaged Programs Coordinator has overall responsibility for guiding and implementing Community-Engaged Learning Programs. This includes coordinating, planning, and executing activities that facilitate student, faculty, and community partners’ academic-based community engagement through service learning and other forms of community-engaged, high-impact learning, as well as providing opportunities and resources for students to critically reflect on issues around community/civic engagement and social justice in relation to their academic, personal, professional, and civic development and overall student success. The incumbent provides leadership in developing appropriate procedures to adhere to campus and CSU policies and provides direction in the management and use of student, course, and community partner data necessary for program operations, liability/risk management, and program evaluation/assessment. The incumbent, along with the Executive and Associate Director, shares responsibility for developing partnerships on campus and in the community with the ultimate purpose of enriching scholarship, research, and creative activity; enhancing curriculum, teaching, and learning; preparing educated, civically engaged student scholars; strengthening democratic values and civic responsibility; addressing critical societal issues; and contributing to the public good.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Planning and Coordination of the Community-Engaged Learning Programs: Develop, execute, and report on strategic long- and short-term program goals and objectives that align with the strategic priorities of the University and the Center for Community Engagement, with a focus on equity, inclusion, diversity, and student success.
    • University/Community Partnership Development: Lead collaborative efforts with the campus and larger (external) communities to strategically develop and maintain democratic, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial partnerships that provide opportunities for student engagement around critical societal issues and contribute to the public good.
    • Student Success: Create opportunities for community engagement that provide inclusive and equitable access to all CSULB students.
    • Research, Evaluation, and Assessment: Play a co-lead role in CCE strategic planning, program evaluation and assessment, and reporting.
    • Communication and Outreach: In a coordinated effort with other CCE staff, develop and implement ongoing communication and marketing strategies that further CCE and University values and priorities around student success, community engagement, and the public good.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Demonstrated experience in the development of collaborative campus/community partnerships with non-profit, public, and/or grassroots organizations. Knowledge of community-engaged learning literature, research, trends, community-based research and best practices and a thorough knowledge of service learning and service-learning best practices. Experience working with equity-centered programs/initiatives/projects Experience working with college/university students and an understanding of student development in higher education.

    Familiarity with service-learning curriculum design and an ability to advise and guide faculty in the integration of service learning into their courses. Strong organization skills, creative thinking/reasoning abilities, and demonstrated competency to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail. Experience in program development and management along with lead/supervisory experience. Data management experience and working with digital/online data management systems, with a strong preference given for knowledge of and expertise with Cal State S4 database system. Experience in program evaluation and assessment, including appropriate methodologies (e.g., survey design, focus group facilitation). Ability to maintain high professional and ethical standards at all times, and in particular when handling confidential information. Knowledge of risk management issues in relation to student community-based learning activities (e.g., service learning, internships, fieldwork).

    Strong knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), survey software (e.g., Qualtrics), along with general experience in publishing/design and video production/editing applications. Flexibility, the ability to take initiative, and the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues within the Center, throughout the university, and in the community. A clear commitment to social justice and student success.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience
    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, social sciences, education, health, and human services, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Equivalent to a master’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in social sciences, behavioral sciences, health and human services, or a related field) and a minimum of three years professional experience in a higher education academic or student affairs/services setting, or a related field.
    • Additional experience within a not-for-profit organization working with college/university students is highly desired and can replace one year of experience in a higher education setting.

    Physical Summary

    Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,841 - $4,850 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,841 - $6,884 per month.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
