    The Position

    Legal Research Assistants spend the majority of time providing the most difficult paralegal assistance/support to agency counsel, drawing upon their training and/or experience to analyze a specific set of facts; performing general legal research for a specific question of law; reaching a conclusion of law; presenting findings either orally or in writing for the attorney's review; and composing briefs, pleadings, motions and other legal documents for the attorney's review and signature.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This Legal Research Assistant I (LRA1) position is located within the Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) Las Vegas Office and reports directly to the Administrative Attorney. The incumbent will assist key staff members in addressing legal matters involving laws and regulations affecting transportation companies, transportation network companies, passengers and property. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conduct research/review of federal, state, and local ordinances governing transportation network companies; drafting legal orders and correspondence; scheduling, maintenance, monitoring and retention of the Transportation Authority's caseload docket; provide assistance to the Legal Secretary staff including back up coverage. This position works with a variety of department and agency staff as well as various external customers on a daily basis.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of an accredited paralegal program or an Associate's degree in paralegal studies, administration of justice or related field that included major coursework in legal studies and one year of experience which included legal research and preparation of pleadings and other documents filed in court; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Applicants must attach a copy of their paralegal certificate or college or university transcripts, if applicable. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position has a 25% travel requirement. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
