    Introduction

    About the Position:
    This position will work within the traffic studies and design group located in the One Civic Center in Downtown Scottsdale. The position will be responsible for leading or assisting with various complex traffic engineering tasks, including writing traffic studies and reports or developing plans for traffic signals, signs, and markings. Much of the work required of this position requires coordination with other city staff and the general public.

    Our office is in the heart of Old Town, across from city hall.     Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $107,182.40 annually.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A Bachelor's Degree in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution.
    • Four years of relevant experience.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Employee must obtain within 12 months of hire, and maintain throughout tenure, a Professional Engineering license.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    • Determines whether or not a problem is a neighborhood or network issue.
    • Coordinates and collaborates with the Planning and Neighborhood Resources as part of the plan review and development processes.
    • Works closely with professional engineers and technical engineering staff from other City divisions as well as the City Council and Transportation Commission.
    • Makes presentations and represents the City in public and Transportation Commission on matters relating to Traffic Engineering.
    • Responds to citizen requests for traffic signal warrant studies, speed limit studies, left-turn warrant studies and other studies relating to traffic flow and congestion.
    • Undertakes accident analysis, capacity improvement project reviews, traffic control planning, school traffic safety and policy planning efforts.
    • Leads, depending upon assignment, a team or project. In this role, may be asked to coordinate daily activities of subordinate staff.

    • Most work is performed in a City office environment, with occasional site visits.

    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
