Interested applicants are encouraged to apply before the application review deadline noted above This recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates for current and future vacancies.The Maintenance Assistant position is a temporary, hourly, at-will, non-benefited position limited to 960 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The specific hours will be determined in coordination with the selected candidate.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate loves working indoors and outdoors, possesses strong customer service skills with a friendly, approachable demeanor, is flexible and willing to learn new tasks and skills, and can work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have experience in building maintenance and using hand and power tools.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Maintenance Assistant performs hands-on physical labor in keeping Town facilities, building systems and restrooms clean, safe, and operable condition. Primary responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Inspect plumbing fixtures for leaks and make necessary repairs.
- Test and repair emergency lights and exit signs.
- Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers.
- Test and replace batteries in battery-operated equipment and tools such as sink faucets, toilet flushers, smoke and carbon dioxide detectors.
- Clean, repair, prepare and remove old paint from interior and exterior surfaces (e.g., rooms, hallways, walls, park restrooms, bollards, gates, etc.) for painting, staining, caulking and touch up.
- Check and replace burnt out lamps/light bulbs, clean fixtures and inspect in all buildings.
- Inspect and clean roofs and gutters.
- Clean emergency stairwells, mechanical rooms and Police building basement.
- Inspect gates and doors, lubricate chains and door hardware, and replace belts as needed;
- Flush out floor drains throughout Town facilities.
- Clear grated intake pits of leaves and debris.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum QualificationsAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience in parks or facilities maintenance or other related experience.
License: Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required.
