    Who We Are:
    The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885M and 2,162 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing, and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.

    The Opportunity:


    Delete The Divide is an initiative led by the County of Los Angeles to empower youth and young adults in underserved communities who are adversely impacted by the digital divide. Impacted communities are geographic areas within the County of Los Angeles where 20.1% to 100% of the households lack internet access. Partnerships have been established with public, private, academic, and community-based organizations to unify efforts in ensuring that members have direct access to training and support services in modern technologies.

    Essential Job Functions

    Installs, configures, maintains and tests computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment following established procedures.

    Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves routine hardware, software and network connectivity problems.
    Identifies trends in the reported problem calls and recommends improvements.

    Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding user support needs or improving customer satisfaction.

    Prepares routine user or support staff instructions and procedures; may conduct formal and informal end user and support staff technical training and assist in the development of training and orientation materials.

    Participates in hardware and software installation and upgrade projects.

    Assists in defining and recommending appropriate hardware and software configurations and standards to meet customer needs and develops specifications to purchase new hardware, software and other peripheral devices based upon established departmental standards.

    Configures basic software distribution tools.

    Assists in the ordering of licenses for assigned software packages, in consultation with appropriate management or other information technology staff, as needed .

    Provides application support to customers, as needed .

    Assists in coordinating equipment delivery and change-out, software licensing compliance and inventory/asset control, as needed .

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify:

    One (1) year of experience installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting and repairing client computing devices or software, in a centralized Information Technology organization* AND recent or current participant in the Los Angeles County Delete the Divide program as a Technology Professional Intern I or higher.

    Special Information:
    Appointees will be required to work a Monday through Friday 5/40 work schedule.

    Special Requirement Information:
    *Centralized Information Technology (IT) organization is defined as a unit or department that provides comprehensive IT services such as analysis, design, acquisition, development, implementation, maintenance, and/or support of information systems, under the direction or guidance of the organization’s Chief IT official.

    License:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical Expectations:

    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    Some classifications are exempt from AB1008, PPG 514, and Fair Chance provisions, and are required to notify candidates of various requirements to gain employment after passing an examination. These requirements can include background investigations, medical examinations, drug tests, etc.

    This examination will consist of one (1) part a multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 100%, assessing:

    THE MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    Candidates must meet requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed onto the eligible list.

    Eligibility Information:

    You will move through the assessment process and if you pass, we will place your results on a list. We will then invite the highest scoring group to an interview. The list of everyone who passed is valid for twelve (12) months.

    In lieu of traditional banding, an alternative banding procedure may be employed as a result of a special study sanctioned by the Department of Human Resources, consistent with Civil Service Rule 11.01(D).
