    On-Site Position

    The City of Waco Seeks
    Join our dedicated team as an Epidemiologist, where your expertise will play a vital role in safeguarding public health and improving community well-being. In this position, you will plan, organize, and coordinate investigations into the causes of health events while developing effective public health preparedness strategies. Your analytical skills will be essential as you conduct communicable disease investigations, compile and interpret data, and generate insightful reports to assess community health needs.

    Position Overview:
    Under general supervision, compiles, analyzes, interprets, investigates, and reports public health data for health research projects on the surveillance, detection and prevention of disease and public health crises; manages public health surveillance databases and compiles data for technical reports for the Public Health District (PHD).

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biological Science, or related science field.
    • 1 year of professional experience in public health, epidemiology, or data / statistical
      analysis; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
    Preferred:
    • Public Health experience.
    Essential Functions:
    • Plans, organizes, develops, and coordinates the investigation and evaluation of the causes of undesirable health events such as death and disability.
    • Provides public education to residents on a variety of public health topics; establishes and maintains databases.
    • Conducts communicable disease investigations and develops public health preparedness strategies.
    • Prepares and presents reports, statistical analyses, scientific papers, specific studies and trends in epidemiology and public health in order to assess the health needs of the community.
    • Assist with public health program evaluation and planning; assists in the development of grant proposals.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
