GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the supervision of the Bastrop State Park Site Manager and the daily direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Responsible for purchasing maintenance related items using procurement card, purchase order, requisition, bid solicitation; project and daily task organization management, tracking, quality control, staff supervision and inventory control. Performs electrical and plumbing work, facility maintenance and repair. Duties may include but are not limited to large equipment and vehicle operation, repair and maintenance. Performs general maintenance, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting), report preparation and submittal, and staff training. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience :

Three years of experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance;

One year of experience as a supervisor or team leader, which may include oversight of paid staff, volunteers, or alternative workforces.

Licensure :

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.



ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

Experience :

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance, with a maximum substitution of two years.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience :

Three years of experience working with the public;

Three years of general maintenance experience in repairing buildings, equipment, plumbing, or electrical systems;

Experience in grounds maintenance experience such as operating lawn mowers, tractors, trucks, power or hand tools;

Two years of experience in natural resource management such as forestry or land conservation principles;

One year of experience in administrative duties to include purchasing, developing/maintaining files and supervision.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of custodial duties;

Knowledge of standard construction, repair and maintenance techniques;

Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair techniques;

Knowledge of natural and cultural resource protection techniques;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Knowledge of State purchasing processes and procedures;

Skill in natural resource management such as forestry or land management;

Skill in areas such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, equipment/vehicle repair, trail maintenance;

Skill in report writing;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in inventory control to include purchasing, organization and distribution;

Skill in use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment;

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

May be required to work in hazardous conditions during park rule enforcement, search and rescue operations and fire events;

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Required to operate a State vehicle;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
