    Position Overview:
    This position is mainly responsible for collecting and analyzing market data, and responding to external salary surveys. This position supports the Compensation Division, in particular Compensation Consultants in determining or confirming market rates for new or modified job descriptions.

    Additionally, this position is responsible for periodically reviewing and correcting HRIS data to ensure data integrity for reporting purposes, auditing and reviewing job descriptions for accuracy and consistency, and for collecting and maintaining internal Compensation Division and City-wide compensation plan metrics.

    Travel:
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    $29.23 - $36.54

    Telework opportunities may be available after an initial training period. Hybrid schedules are subject to change to meet the business needs of the department.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Implements, administers, and supports the execution of various compensation programs designed by the corporate Human Resources Department. Designs communication instruments to educate and inform management, departmental human resource liaisons, and other HR divisions in the daily activities relating to Compensation/Classification. Thoroughly analyzes data, and makes sound recommendations by interpreting current pay policies and procedures in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations to resolve Compensation/Classification concerns to support and maintain integrity. Consistently applies policies and procedures when trouble shooting Classification/Compensation issues and provides technical advice to departments in the resolution of these issues. Works with and advises HR Liaisons and/or management in the development or revision of job descriptions so they accurately reflect the purpose and key tasks of the position as they relate to the departments business needs. Provides advice and collaborates with management and departmental human resource liaisons on related compliance issues. Thoroughly familiarizes with the business of the assigned departments, to include; organizational structure, reporting relationships, span of control, and other pertinent variables regarding Compensation/Classification initiatives from a global perspective as it relates to the City of Austin. Develops and maintains salary structures by ensuring market matches reflect as close as possible to City of Austin benchmarked positions in an effort to maintain established level of competitiveness. Develops and maintains knowledge and skill in conducting market salary surveys using standard compensation practices such as aging market data, familiarity with variables affecting the external market to support a competitive pay for the City of Austin to attract, retain and motivate human resources to meet departmental business needs.

    • Knowledge of basic compensation practices and principles.
    • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances governing compensation and classification.
    • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
    • Skill in oral and written communications sufficient to clearly convey compensation and classification issues.
    • Skill in analyzing internal or external data as it relates to compensation/classification.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing work.
    • Skill in retrieving compensation data and producing reports/spreadsheets, etc. in an effort to support compensation/ classification decisions.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Skill in using computers and related software.
    • Ability to manage conflicts, and mediate management concerns..
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    • Ability to develop and maintain current knowledge in Human Resources compensation programs and practices.
    • Ability to retrieve compensation data and produce reports/spreadsheets, etc. in an effort to support compensation/classification decisions.

    City Government
