The Position
Compliance/Audit Investigators perform investigative and auditing functions to monitor compliance and detect violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific program or regulatory area such as securities, Medicaid, mortgage lending, or workers' compensation. Investigators allocated to this series do not require P.O.S.T. certification.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Chief Investigator of the Insurer Compliance Unit is responsible for overseeing Benefit Penalty investigations and the Subsequent Injury Fund, for the Division of Industrial Relations, Workers Compensation Section. This position manages and supervises staff statewide, overseeing the work of Compliance Audit Investigators and an Admin Assistant. This position is responsible for monitoring compliance, detecting violations of Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) pertaining to insurers, third-party administrators. Responsibilities include reviewing Permanent Partial Disability reports, Benefit Penalty Determinations, Subsequent Injury reimbursements and processing Cost of Living Adjustment reimbursements. This position is responsible for making determinations regarding violations of NRS and NAC, including recommending administrative fines. In some instances, this position will be responsible for writing formal determinations relating to Benefit Penalties and Subsequent Injury. The qualified candidate will gather data, provide testimony for hearings/appeals and ensures program compliance. Supervisory duties include providing training to subordinate staff, complying with Human Resources processes for recruitment, review and approval of timesheets, and completion of employee evaluations in accordance with requirements. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, business management, accounting, or related field and four years of professional experience in an investigative, auditing or professional program-related position which required the application of federal and/or State laws, policy and procedure in making program compliance determinations; preparing detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanction penalties or changes in management practices, policy and procedure; or recommending criminal prosecution; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and six years of experience, four of which were in a professional investigative, auditing or professional program-related position which required the application of federal and/or State laws, policy and procedure in making program compliance determinations; preparing detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or changes in management practices, policy and procedure; or recommending criminal prosecution; OR two years of experience as a Compliance/Audit Investigator III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
