ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,269 per month.

POSITION PURPOSE: Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services, and under lead direction of more experienced Student Services Professionals, the Student Services Professional IB assists with monitoring academic progress and establishing an academic plan for student-athletes, while supporting an environment which fosters retention and timely graduation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with Monitoring & Evaluating Academic Progress
Assist with monitoring and evaluating academic progress of assigned student-athletes to ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA eligibility requirements under the lead daily direction of experienced Academic Advisors. Meet with students weekly/bi-weekly/monthly or as designated to gather academic updates and follow up with academic success and overall wellbeing. Using judgement, be aware of needs and refer student to campus resources (SSD Office, Counseling, Health Center, CECE, etc.) as needed. Under the lead direction of experienced Academic Advisors, provide input for and implement an academic plan for student success based on the individual student-athlete’s academic needs. Assist with competition travel letters and follow up with students-athletes. Facilitate and encourage professor communication, contacting the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) when necessary. At the lead direction of experienced Academic Advisors, provide coaches and appropriate advisors weekly memos, updates, and reports as requested. Regularly communicate with and meet with Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and academic advisors to provide updates on identified student-athlete academic needs, issues, concerns, and progress. Support academic initiatives that may be needed based on end-of-term assessments of student-athletes academic progress.
Assist Athletics Advisors with Transfer Evaluation Process, Course Selection, & Registration
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and under the lead direction of experienced Academic Advisors, assist with providing academic advising transfer evaluation review, course selection, and registration to new and continuing student-athletes. Keep all advising documents organized, updated, and accessible to experienced academic advisors in a timely manner. Run reports to gather advising information and assess holds on accounts. Communicate with experienced advisors and coaches if necessary. Support Athletics Advisor staff during the weeks leading up to and through registration to support the overall process. Follow up with major academic professional and/or faculty advisor to request academic plans and advising information pertaining to the student-athlete, which is to then be organized and communicated to experienced advisor.
Assist with Continuing Eligibility Certification Process
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and under the lead direction of experienced Academic Advisors, assist in the continuing eligibility certification process. Update Progress Towards Degree charts per term and upload them to BOX for experienced academic advisor to review, facilitating collaboration with Registrar’s Office and certification.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and one (1) year of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
AVAILABILITY: Availability to the athlete is an essential expectation for the academic advising department working with Division I athletes. Student-athletes often have demanding schedules due to their athletic commitments, so being accessible and responsive to their needs is crucial. Below are some aspects of availability that the incumbent would be expected to fulfill:
Office Hours: Establish regular office hours where student-athletes can drop by for in-person consultations or scheduled appointments. This provides designated time for athletes to seek academic guidance or discuss any concerns. Responsive Communication: Within the scheduled work hours, respond promptly to emails, phone calls, or other forms of communication from student-athletes. This helps them feel supported and ensures that their questions or requests for assistance are addressed in a timely manner. Proactive Outreach: Initiate regular check-ins with student-athletes to assist in assessing their academic progress, offer support, and assist with addressing any potential challenges. This proactive approach shows your commitment to their success and well-being. Referral Network: Maintain a network of campus resources and services that can support student-athletes in various areas, such as mental health, career planning, or personal development. Be ready to refer them to the appropriate resources when needed. Being available to student-athletes goes beyond simply being physically present or responsive. It also involves actively listening, providing empathetic support, and demonstrating a genuine interest in their academic and personal growth. Building strong relationships and trust with student-athletes is key to effectively fulfilling this expectation.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA’s) - - Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management, research and interviewing techniques, and principles of individual and group behavior.
- Ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned, and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.
- Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation.
- Ability interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations, and present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
- Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.

- Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
- Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
- Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, nights, and weekends, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs (see below for expectations regarding availability). May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Knowledge of NCAA Division I academic compliance regulations for entering and continuing student-athletes.
- Experience working with Division I student-athletes.
- Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:SEDENTARY WORK - involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Drives motorized equipment (electric cart).
