    Job Summary

    Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Academic Planning and Enrollment, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining data integrity, optimizing database performance, and ensuring data usability. This role requires expertise in data management from data acquisition to data visualization, data modeling and architecture, and data warehouse administration for the Institutional Research and Analytics Data Warehouse (IRADW). Additionally, the incumbent is tasked with developing an alternative to the RDS and exploring its replacement with the CMS or CSU Datalake. The incumbent will architect, design, and administer both logical and physical layer data models, with a comprehensive vision aimed at supporting the development of the IRADW.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Coordinates a strategy to transition from RDS to cloud-based solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency.
    • Architects, designs, and administers both logical and physical data models using cloud services.
    • Utilizes cloud services data warehousing and Databricks to enhance the Institutional Research and Analytics Data Warehouse (IRADW).
    • Implements cloud services and Databricks for a full range of data management tasks, from ingestion to visualization, to advance the development of the IRADW.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of research techniques. Knowledge of the methods of gathering and analyzing research data. Knowledge of statistical procedures and principles. Working knowledge of desktop word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to assist in preparation of questionnaires. Ability to gather, compile and analyze research data. Ability to perform basic and advanced statistical analyses and reporting using PC-based software. Ability to present data in various media (e.g., paper, electronic, web-based, Tableau). Ability to work effectively with people from diverse racial/ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively and facilitate a customer service orientation.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Telecommunications, or a related technical field and two years of related experience required.

    Preferred:

    1. Including or supplemented by an advanced understanding and applications of statistics, data management, programming and data visualization preferred. Graduate study in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering is highly desired.

    2. Two years of working experience in technical research, statistical work in the collection, compilation, and analysis of faculty and courses metrics, data warehousing and higher education business intelligence as well as predictive modeling. A relevant work experience in Institutional Research in higher education including interpretation and presentation of data, demonstrated working experience of SQL/PLSQL programming, Tableau, PeopleSoft, Python scikit-learn or R caret packages will be given due consideration.

    3. A demonstration of data culture and data literacy. Knowledge of Data governance practices, Master Data Management, ETL and Database normalization.

    Physical Summary
    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,158 - $5,681 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,158 - $12,730 per month.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for 6 months with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
