Recreation Specialist (Youth Programming) (Part-Time)

Part-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Community Services Division located at Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St.
Salary Range: $17.35-$26.47/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Qualifications

REQUIRES high school graduation and 6 months of experience in recreational activities. May be required to possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a preemployment drug screen as prescribed by the City.


Qualifications

• Assists with designing, implementing, and evaluating a diverse range of recreational programs and activities for various age groups and interests.
• Assists with creating and managing program budgets, including tracking expenses and revenue.
• Promotes programs and events through various channels, including social media, flyers, and community outreach.
• Builds and maintains positive relationships with community members, local organizations, and stakeholders.
• Addresses participant concerns and feedback to improve program quality and participant satisfaction.
• Maintains accurate records of program participation, financial transactions, and other relevant data.
• Prepares and submits regular reports on program performance, participant demographics, and financial status.
• Analyzes program data to assess effectiveness and make informed recommendations for future initiatives.
• Assists with organizing and working special events, workshops, and seasonal activities, including logistics, staffing, and scheduling.
• Collaborates with external vendors and partners for event support and resources.
• Evaluates event outcomes and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
• Implements emergency procedures and provide first aid or coordinate medical assistance as needed.
• Manages program registrations, including online and in-person sign-ups, payments, and cancellations.
• Handles correspondence, phone calls, and inquiries related to programs and events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
