    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Business License Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Business License Specialist position. As a member of our team, you will process applications for privileged and other business license types, which requires the understanding of codes, policies and procedures related to the privileged, regulated, and general licensing processes to business owners, potential business owners and the public. The ideal candidate will be responsible for meeting with business owners, attorneys, and consultants at our front counter to assist them with submitting full and complete applications for processing. Candidate should also have a strong knowledge and understanding of corporate structures, limited liability companies, and organizational charts, etc.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience: Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, English, Communications or a related field AND three (3) years of full-time customer service experience in the review and analysis of applications for business licenses or related documentation, codes and regulations, and in reviewing applications and public agenda documents, preferably in relation to the business licensing function. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

    Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.
    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    Provides factual information, which requires the understanding of codes, policies and procedures related to the regulated and privileged licensing processes, to business owners, potential business owners and the public; determines specific required application processes including appearance before the Board of County Commissioners and the Liquor and Gaming Licensing Board. Reviews related business license agenda items and related material for completeness, accuracy and compliance with codes and regulations; communicates with applicants, general counsel, and other investigative/regulatory agencies to coordinate the agenda process; reviews corporate structures to ensure accuracy and consistency between each agenda item and the information appearing on the public agenda; refers the applicant to the proper agency if required. Enters Licensing Board actions and other pertinent information into an automated licensing system; establishes necessary files and distributes materials to other departments. Tracks changes in ownership and/or business location, sale or closure of businesses, and other changes to the license documentation. Maintains logs and records of work activities; may compile statistical or other reports regarding license activities. Maintains on-going communications with local, state and federal regulatory agencies to coordinate and resolve licensing problems. Attends and participates in staff meetings in preparation of each month's Board meetings and attends each Board meeting to respond to any questions regarding the agenda process. Coordinates the scheduling of special Liquor and Gaming Licensing Board meetings. Reviews the monthly agenda of the State Gaming Control Board and Gaming Commission for gaming applications within county jurisdiction and coordinates the scheduling of these applications with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Uses a variety of standard office equipment, including a personal computer, in the course of the work.

    EXAMPLES OF ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

    Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Performs a variety of general office support work related to the Regulated and Liquor and Gaming agenda processes, such as greeting the public, answering the telephone, typing labels and correspondence and filing materials.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
