    General Description and Classification Standards

    The Watershed Construction Maintenance Worker II is a lead worker for semi-skilled

    construction and/or maintenance work to support a variety of wastewater collection system activities. Operates hand and power tools, light to medium construction equipment, etc., and is part of a larger crew working with skilled trade employees, experienced equipment operators, technicians, and crew supervisors. May also work alone or act as a lead worker on a crew for construction or maintenance activities.

    Supervision Received

    Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written/verbal instructions to accomplish assigned tasks; may assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associate, apprentice, or semi-skilled employee in the group.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.
    • Completes assigned work orders correctly and on time
    • Works with supervisor to prioritize work orders
    • Works in a safe and organized manner to ensure safety for self, crew, and the public
    • Works as part of and/or leads a crew to:
      • inspect and repair sewer and storm water lines (collection systems)
      • place flags or cones to control traffic in case of sewer and storm water lines (collection systems)
      • make water tap on sewer mains
      • install clean outs on sewer mains
      • unstop sewers and house connections
      • clean catch basins and repair cave-ins
      • locate sewer spills and odor complaints
      • ability interpret and/or read maps and GIS drawings
    • Follows assigned route/schedule, advises customer of installation, records work performed and other required information, and time it took to complete job
    • Visits construction sites to verify work completed by contractor
    • Checks utility truck to ensure proper equipment and tools are present and in working order
    • Requests approval for necessary materials to complete assigned work orders
    • Maintains a safe and organized work area, stores tools properly, collects scrap and leftover materials, and blows debris from sidewalks

    Decision Making

    Generally, operates under the specific direction of crew supervisors. May assist in the task of guiding work of less experienced employees. Selects from multiple standardized procedures, written instructions, and methods to accomplish assigned tasks.

    Leadership Provided

    Ability to work productively on a team and provide guidance to lower-level team members as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.
    • General site safety of collection system and maintenance, methods, products, tools, and equipment used in collection system maintenance and construction work
    • Operates a variety of light to heavy power equipment (vactor truck, backhoe, excavator) and maintenance of tools and equipment (pumping equipment, hydraulic excavator, concrete socket)
    • Understands and applies DWM policies, procedures, and regulations
    • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with customers
    • Maintains records, creates reports, and documents work status with photos and data
    • Works after normal working hours, as required
    • Resolves heavy equipment issues (sewer)
    • Communicates with customers to successfully address issue

    Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
    • Seven (7) years of experience in construction and/or wastewater collection system

    Licensures and Certifications
    • State of Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B (Preferred)
    • Wastewater Collection License (Preferred)
