    The Position

    Registered Nurses provide general or specialized professional nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) is recruiting for a Registered Nurse V, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) position. The position is responsible for overseeing the SNSVH - QAPI Program. In addition, the position will provide management relief which will include direct supervision of the Registered Nurse IVs, Licensed Practical Nurses IIs, and the Certified Nursing Assistants. Duties include but not limited to tracking and monitoring all data related to the QAPI program, preparing reports, maintaining records in accordance with the State of Nevada records retention schedule; assuming chair responsibility for quarterly QAPI committee meetings; oversight of MDS/Care Plan process as assigned; oversight of educational programs including the in-house Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification program and other duties as assigned.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, one year of which included providing patient care in a skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home) or ensuring regulatory compliance of skilled nursing facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. Per NRS 632.305, the Nevada State Board of Nursing may, after verifying that an applicant meets all licensure requirements, issue an Interim Permit authorizing the applicant to practice nursing until the results of their examination for licensure are received. The Interim Permit is for a period not to exceed 90 days and is immediately revoked if the candidate fails the examination. Any person working under the authority of an Interim Permit may not represent themselves as a licensed registered nurse. Passing the licensure examination is a requirement for continuing employment in the Nurse I Class. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid commercial driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria QAPI and long-term care experience must be documented in the application QAPI experience must include developing and evaluating performance improvement projects or educational programs. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
