    The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use.     The County of Los Angeles Public Works is seeking qualified candidates to fill an emergency Electrical Engineering Assistant vacancy related to the homelessness crisis.

    Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Electrical Engineering Assistant.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Performs design detailing, drafting, and calculations for electrical projects such as power and lighting installations, control systems, or underground and overhead high voltage distribution systems utilizing commonly used software applications and specialized engineering software applications such as Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD).
    • Assists in the design of portions of electrical and electronic systems or smaller systems using CADD.
    • Assists in the planning, design and installation of communication systems by preparing circuit designs and calculations and inspects such installations to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
    • Reviews less complex electrical plans and calculations for County or private construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and sound engineering principles.
    • Transfers or reviews the transfer of as-built notations from construction drawings to produce record drawings.
    • Assists in performing computations involved in drafting and minor design.
    • Compiles data for plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
    • Assists in the review of shop drawings and in field follow-ups and inspections of equipment during fabrication and installation.
    • Assists with the performance of field inspections and surveys of existing electrical facilities to ensure conformity with electrical codes and industry standards and assists in the preparation of reports detailing field conditions.


    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

    A bachelor's degree* from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an electrical engineering curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

    LICENSE :

    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Membership in professional organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other nationally recognized organizations is encouraged.

    PHYSICAL CLASS :
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved

    EXAM CONTENT :

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    Before the end of your work assignment, the appointing department will evaluate the candidate's performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
