    The Position

    Librarians are typically assigned to the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) Division and perform a broad range of professional level duties in support of a library that organizes and provides access to a wide selection of materials in a variety of formats. Incumbents perform administrative work in planning, coordinating and directing activities within one or more functional areas of the library including, but not limited to, acquisitions; cataloging; reference; circulation; collection maintenance; serials; document delivery/interlibrary loan; government documents; library services for the blind and physically disabled; and/or statewide library development.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) division is recruiting a Librarian I underfilling a Librarian III. The person in the position reports to a program manager within the Library Planning and Development division. The consultant will work with libraries throughout the state to develop, implement, and improve continuing education options for library staff, volunteers, and board trustees. The Professional Development Consultant is responsible for leading the development and implementation of continuing education programs for library staff statewide. This includes coordinating training sessions, workshops, and resources, as well as establishing and maintaining partnerships with local, state, and national organizations to enhance these initiatives. The incumbent acts as a key resource, providing guidance and consulting services, while also managing the continuing education budget and overseeing grant programs. They assess and report on professional learning programs, making data-driven recommendations for improvement, and ensure effective communication with stakeholders. Additionally, the consultant represents NSLAPR in professional settings and participates in relevant committees.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association; OR current enrollment in an academic program leading to a Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association and two years of paraprofessional library experience; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included 21 semester credits in library studies and two years of paraprofessional library experience; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university which included 21 semester credits in library studies and four years of paraprofessional library experience; OR graduation from high school or equivalent; 21 semester credits in library studies; and seven years of paraprofessional library experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which included 21 semester credits in library studies. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position requires up to 25% travel requirement. Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
