    About the Role:
    The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is seeking dedicated, collaborative leaders to manage the Industrial Waste program. We need proven leaders who will leverage their leadership and program management expertise to strategically address and resolve challenges and effectively improve our program that serves our industrial customer base.

    The IW Supervisor positions represent an exciting opportunity to manage the multi-faceted elements, program teams, and broad scope of work within WTD's delegated pretreatment program. These positions allow for opportunities to help manage special projects, innovative approaches and tackle emerging challenges such as PFAS and nutrients from Industrial Users. The IW Supervisor positions represent a unique opportunity for career development and enhanced leadership roles in one of the best pretreatment programs in the country.

    These two positions will supervise the daily operations of staff within the Industrial Waste Unit in the Wastewater Treatment Division's Environmental and Community Services Section. Supervisors in this unit are responsible for the hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and development of the staff they supervise. The focus of their work will be overseeing investigators but could evolve to other disciplines in the unit over time or as assigned. The unit supervisors may oversee special projects and provide technical assistance to WTD staff, as well as communications with the work unit's internal and external clients. The unit supervisors are subject matter experts, experienced and skilled in navigating complex issues and challenging problems. They are also highly skilled in growing staff and in creating highly effective teams.

    Job Duties
    What You Will Be Doing:
    • Supervise the daily operations of the IW unit by providing direct daily assistance to IW staff, WTD operations, commercial and industrial representatives and other external partners as necessary.
    • Supervise IW unit staff. Engage and develop staff by providing on-boarding, coaching, mentoring, and developmental assignments to ensure that needed technical and non-technical skills for assigned staff meet the current and emerging needs of the IW program and the Wastewater Treatment Division. Conduct hiring, training, and performance management (evaluations and appraisals), and take disciplinary action, when needed. Facilitate unit meetings and retreats to assure regular and timely communication of unit issues and initiatives to work staff.
    • Foster a respectful and positive environment in diverse work situations, create strong morale with engaged teams, instill vision and purpose, and encourage open dialogue.
    • Develop work unit policies and procedures and recommend to division/department leadership. Implement and evaluate approved policies and procedures.

    Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
    Qualifications You Bring:
    • Verifiable experience leading or managing staff associated with industrial waste pretreatment program responsibilities. Expertise must include reviewing staff work associated with permitting, enforcement, and inspections.
    • Demonstrated experience leading work groups or special projects as they relate to industrial waste.
    • Established reputation as a strong leader who develops mutually respectful relationships, achieves consensus among competing interests and fosters a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, environmental stewardship, and public health in the implementation of industrial waste program elements.

    • Washington State Driver's License.

    • Advanced knowledge of industrial waste rules and regulations

    Supplemental Information

    Working Conditions:
    • Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements are approximately 10 times a quarter. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work.
    • Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
    • Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
    • Union Representation: This position is represented by the Teamster, Local 117. Pursuant to Article 14.4.1 Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust $1.00 per hour from the base wage will be submitted to the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust Fund.
