    Summary

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
    Deschutes County Health Services supports over 400 staff in Behavioral and Public Health programs working to promote and protect the health and safety of the community in a broad variety of community-based settings.

    Deschutes County Behavioral Health (DCBH) is the Community Mental Health Program providing safety net and core clinical services for community members in Deschutes County dealing with mental health and substance use conditions. DCBH is also a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). As such, DCBH relies on multi-disciplinary teams to provide innovative, evidence based, recovery oriented services in behavioral healthcare settings co-located with physical health providers.

    ABOUT THE JOB:
    The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works as part of a mental health treatment team. Duties include, but are not limited to, performing comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnosis; prescribing psychotropic medications to adults with psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders; determining the medical necessity of proposed mental health services; and working collaboratively with other licensed independent practitioners, mental health practitioners, and primary care providers.

    This position is located in Deschutes County and may be eligible for a hybrid of in-office/remote work as allowed by policy and approved by the supervisor.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Psychiatric principles and practices, laws, rules and regulations governing the provision of care to patients in the State of Oregon.
    • Processes, procedures and theories of clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health clients.
    • Principles, practices and theories of clinical education of patients in the areas of psychiatric care.


    What You Will Bring:

    Knowledge of or experience with:
    • Theories and practices of client management and treatment within the scope of certification.
    • Analytical tests and procedures used in clinical settings to determine the mental status of clients.
    • Pharmacology as applied to clinical nursing and prescription of drugs as authorized within the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner formulary and Oregon Revised Statutes.


    Skill in:
    • Accurately assessing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of mental health disorders including knowledge of psycho pharmacology.
    • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Remaining calm and using good judgment during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others at all times.

    Compensation

    $9,078.37 to $12,165.88 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union represented position is available immediately.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
    Preference will be given for :
    • One year of responsible psychiatric nurse practitioner experience.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish.


    Necessary Special Requirements

    DDriving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

    Must have dependable transportation and be able and willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.

    • Possession of or ability to obtain a license to practice as a Registered Nurse AND a license to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner OR a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist with prescriptive authority in the State of Oregon by hire date.
    • For positions serving adults, possession of/or ability to obtain certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in area of specialty.
    NOTE: Per OAR 407-007-0000 to 407-007-0100 this position requires a Criminal Background check through the State Background Check Unit/Orchards, which may also include being fingerprinted. These rules provide for the reasonable screening under ORS 181A.195, 181A.200, 409.027 AND 413.036 of the County’s employees to determine if they have a history of specific criminal behavior identified in federal or state law or rules such that they should not be allowed to work, be employed, or perform in positions covered by these rules.
