    The Position

    Under immediate supervision, incumbents perform duties below the journey level while receiving training for advancement to an entry-level professional health/human services class.

    The Department of Public and Behavioral Health; Nevada Central Cancer Registry Program, part of the Office of State Epidemiology is seeking a dedicated Health and Human Services Trainee (Underfill for Cancer Registry Specialist 2) located in Reno, NV. This entry-level position is designed for individuals actively working to become Cancer Registrar Specialists and focuses on acquiring skills and knowledge necessary for certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS). Under immediate supervision, the trainee will be responsible for performing technical and paraprofessional tasks in the collection and management of cancer data, supporting the mission of the Nevada Central Cancer Registry. The trainee will receive on-the-job training supplemented by formal or informal coursework or workshops. Duties will be assigned at the entry level and closely monitored by a journey-level Cancer Registrar who are ODS- Certified and/or supervisor. Upon ODS certification through the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) and successful completion of the training program, the trainee will be eligible for automatic advancement to a Cancer Registrar Specialist 2 position.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, early childhood development, psychology, public health, special education, nursing, or other discipline directly related to the field in which the applicant is to be trained; OR two years of journey level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained. (NOTE: some jobs strictly require a bachelor's degree). Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal background and fingerprint check is required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
