    Overview

    One Agency, One Mission: Public Safety
    The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is seeking an experienced Background Technician to join our Professional Standards Unit on a temporary, part-time basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analyzing personal and professional background information, and will be able to prepare reports on findings and make recommendations.

    This role is essential in ensuring that potential hires for positions meet the high standards of the LCSO. We are dedicated to maintaining public safety and upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Our Professional Standards Unit plays a crucial role in ensuring that candidates meet our rigorous standards.

    *The pay rate for this position is $26.2500 per hour.

    Responsibilities

    Specifically, this position:
    • Receives general supervision from sworn staff.
    • Completes, logs, and tracks NCIC/CCIS records.
    • Coordinates administrative processes for the background investigation unit recommending, developing, and implementing administrative policies and procedures; makes recommendations for modifications to procedures for improved efficiency and operations. Completes standard operating procedures.
    • Reviews completed background interview forms; checks for inconsistencies, errors, omissions, falsifications and minimum requirements.
    • Ensures accuracy and completion before completing initial interviews or contact.
    • Obtains and reviews records from criminal justice organizations to include federal, state and local.
    • Conducts background investigations; interviews applicable individuals; contacts by email or phone to verify information; makes additional inquiries as necessary.
    • Observes physical characteristics of individuals being interviewed.
    • Prepares detailed and complete interview statements.
    • Prepares final background investigation report within established guidelines; provides report to sworn staff.
    • Provides regular communication on status and assignment of investigations.
    • Trains background investigators.
    • Interprets appropriate policies, laws, rules, and regulations related to background investigations in response to public/customer inquiries. Conducts necessary research; routes inquiries to supervisor appropriately for more complex or technical matters.

    Nonessential Functions
    • When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
    • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

    Qualifications

    • Four (4) years of experience in a directly related field, or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
    • Two (2) years of experience with background investigations preferred.
    • NCIC/CCIC certification required within three (3) months of hire.

    Other Information to Note:

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
