Qualifications Experience and Training Guidelines Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:
Assistant Planner: Experience: Four (4) years of experience working directly for a planning, building, economic development or other development service agencies performing related duties.
OR Training: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in planning, economic development or a closely related field.
Associate Planner: Experience: Two years of professional planning experience.
Training: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, geography, resource/environmental management or a closely related field. A Master’s degree in city and regional planning may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Supplemental Information Salaries are based on a 37.5 work week Assistant Planner: $4,840 - $7,936
Associate Planner: $5,212 - $8,574 The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
