    The Position

    Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.

    Under general supervision, incumbents supervise technical engineering employees and perform engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data and the exercise of judgement impacting daily operations and policy and procedure implementation. Duties result in a product or provide a service or recommendation used by others in making decisions.

    This is a supervisory position for the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Exploration Crew C028, within the Materials Division, Geotechnical Section, located in Carson City. The Exploration Crew is primarily tasked with performing subsurface explorations. The primary role of this position is working alongside and overseeing field crew personnel, at the direction of the Supervisor II. The duties for this position include the operation and training of exploration equipment and associated support vehicles, including but not limited to drill rigs excavators, dozer, loaders oversized and overweight truck and trailers: arraying traffic control, obtaining utility clearances and permits, and coordinating scope and schedule with the engineers. A Class "A" commercial driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Surveying, and other technical skills will be evaluated during the application review process. This position will also utilize Microsoft Office and other computer software such as ArcMap and Pathfinder Office for document work and performing administrative tasks. Frequent Statewide trave is required for this position.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of subprofessional engineering experience; OR four years of experience at the Engineering Technician II level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not licensed professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria A valid Class A commercial driver's license is required at the time of appointment. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
