    Overview

    The Larimer County Attorney's Office is excited to announce an opening for an Assistant County Attorney!

    This unique position offers the chance to work across a broad range of legal areas, including child protection, mental health, property tax appeals, and zoning enforcement.

    The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Depending on court hearings and other required in-person appearances, a hybrid remote option may be available for up to two days per week.

    Responsibilities

    Specifically, this position:
    • Represents the State of Colorado in Dependency & Neglect cases.
    • Represents Larimer County in Mental Health, Zoning Enforcement, and property tax appeals before the Board of Assessment Appeals.
    • Handles a caseload, including trial preparation, witness interviews, discovery, and court appearances.
    • Provides legal advice to county staff and departments with minimal supervision.
    • Researches, analyzes, and interprets legal documents.
    • Supervises legal work performed by assigned staff and contributes to performance appraisals.

    We are looking for a candidate who will:
    • Routine software and business applications including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, case and file management systems, and databases. The County Attorney’s Office uses Filevine for case/litigation management (no experience is required with Filevine).
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
    • Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
    • Sufficient knowledge of and skill in statutory interpretation and legal research, analyses, and writing.
    • Courtroom advocacy skills (or willingness to learn).


    Qualifications

    All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required for an Assistant County Attorney I will be eliminated from the process.

    Assistant County Attorney I $100,000 - $105,000
    • Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution required.
    • Current license to practice law in Colorado, or obtain it within two (2) months of hire, required.
    Assistant County Attorney II $120,000 - $130,000
    • Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution and a minimum of three years of legal experience, preferably including local government legal experience required.
    • Current license to practice law in Colorado required.
