    Responsibilities

    Specifically, this position:
    • Performs extensive case documentation in the state database meeting mandated requirements and prepares court reports.
    • Assesses allegations of child abuse/neglect and monitors the risk/safety of children/youth. This involves having difficult, truthful, and extensive conversations with family, their supports, and community professionals.
    • Collaborates with law enforcement, schools, medical personnel, mental health agencies, and other service providers.
    • Facilitates treatment planning with families and their supports to address the safety/risk concerns for children.
    • Advocates for families and children, testify in court, and de-escalates potentially volatile situations.
    • Requires daily travel within the community and to family homes for home visits. This can be within and outside of Larimer County.
    • Will work in the field, office, remotely and testify in court.
    • Participates in individual and group supervision.
    • Manages casework for families dealing with substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, multi-generational poverty, child abuse/neglect and sexual abuse.

    We are looking for a candidate that will:
    • Use critical thinking skills to make difficult decisions.
    • Have a flexible schedule due to frequent late evening hours for home visits, crisis situations, and family meetings. Work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends, when performing duties of positions.
    • Communicate professionally through written documentation as well as verbally.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
    • Understand scope and application of laws (Colorado Children's Code, Volume VII) and regulations pertaining to physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and child welfare.
    • Maintain sensitive and confidential information.
    • Effectively respond to conflict situations and people in conflict.
    • Act as a credible witness when testifying in court.


    Qualifications

    Depending on qualifications, this position may be hired as a Social Case Worker I or II.

    All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

    Social Caseworker I Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree from a higher education institution with coursework related to the job responsibilities of social caseworker required. Coursework examples can include and are not limited to, the development of human development and behavior, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques.
    • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
    • Completion of certification from the State training academy prior to the end of the nine month probationary term is required.
    • Upon employment, must maintain annual continuing education hours and state training requirements.
    Social Caseworker II Qualifications:
    • One (1) year of experience as a Social Caseworker I with Larimer County, or as a professional social caseworker in either a public or private agency, after obtaining a qualifying degree required. A Master's Degree in an appropriate field as defined below may substitute for experience.
    • Bachelor's Degree from a higher education institution with coursework related to the job responsibilities of social caseworker required. Coursework examples can include and are not limited to, the development of human development and behavior, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques.
    • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
    • Completion of certification from the State training academy prior to the end of the nine month probationary term is required.

    The typical schedule for this position will vary, and evening and weekend work is typical.

    This is a hybrid position and will require at least one day per week in the office . You will also be required to have adequate internet access and space for remote work. Larimer County provides an annual remote work stipend to assist with equipment and office supply needs for remote workspaces.

    Office hours for this position will be located at one of the following three locations: 1501 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO 2555 Midpoint Drive, Fort Collins, CO 200 Peridot Avenue, Loveland, CO.

    All new employees and rehires will be required to submit fingerprints for a CBI criminal background check (c.r.s. 26-6-104).

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required pre-employment testing. Depending on the position, these checks may include, but are not limited to; reference checks, motor vehicle reports, employment verification, education verification, fingerprinting, criminal history information, physical, and a drug screening. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
