    The Position

    Registered Dietitians provide nutritional care and medical nutrition therapy for individuals and groups in institutional, clinic, research, community and residential settings and provide nutrition education to clients/patients and families in accordance with accepted professional practices and standards.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for a Registered Dietitian 2 at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) in Las Vegas. DWTC is an inpatient psychiatric hospital serving children and adolescents in Las Vegas, Nevada ages 6 to 17 years. Duties include assessing the nutritional status of patients to identify patients who may require special dietary services, providing nutritional counseling and education and monitoring all patient's height, weight, BMI and lab results.

    The dietitian performs weekly nutritional groups on each patient unit. The dietitian ensures compliance with the National School Lunch, School Breakfast and Afterschool Snack Programs, including completing monthly reports and claims. The incumbent will establish written priorities, policies and procedures for the provision of nutritional services and ensure conformance to local, State and federal licensure and funding guidelines. The dietitian is the liaison between DWTC and the vendor food service management company and assists the vendors dietitian in meeting NSLP guidelines. The dietitian will monitor and oversee food service contractors to ensure proper food preparation, proper food handling, sanitation, safety practices and accountability of food service contractors. The incumbent will participate in menu planning or approve the institutional menus to ensure nutritional adequacy and client/patient satisfaction. A food tray is evaluated weekly for compliance with the guidelines. The dietitian conducts patient food satisfaction surveys and follows up on complaints regarding food services. The dietitian participates as a member of the quality improvement teams and performs other duties as required.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current registration and licensure by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and one year of professional experience as a Registered Dietitian. Special Notes Per Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 640E, persons appointed to this class must be licensed as a Registered Dietitian in the State of Nevada. A temporary license may be granted, pending dietitian licensing in the State of Nevada to a person who holds a corresponding license in another jurisdiction. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
