    • H.S. Diploma or GED
    • Two (2) years of customer service experience
    Preferred:
    • Associate Degree
    • Animal care, shelter, or veterinary experience
    • Texas Driver's License
    Position Overview Under general supervision, perform a variety of duties necessary for the evaluation and marketing of animals for rescue placement, develop rescue group contacts and arrange for the transfer of animals to rescue groups and adoption partners. Actively promotes and coordinates the foster program in order to maximize lies saved. Coordinates foster eligible animals and foster parents.

    Position Responsibilities
    • Recruits, screens, and trains potential foster parents including training on shelter programs and procedures that impact the foster program.
    • Creates and maintains standardized foster care procedures and materials.
    • Recruits, qualifies, and orients new rescue partners; serves as the primary contact for rescue partners. Conducts background checks on rescue partners.
    • Coordinates the smooth transition of foster animals to and from the shelter.
    • Coordinates foster surgery scheduling to fast-track adoptions.
    • Ensures that foster animals receive all necessary medical treatments and rechecks.
    • Identifies animals for rescue placement; contacts rescue groups in a timely manner and coordinates pick up/transport of animals; prepares and completes documentation.
    • Creates animal marketing materials to increase interest in animals at the shelter, including videos, photographs, and other information that can be provided to rescue partners and general interest parties and used on social media.
    • Organizes transportation for animals going to rescue, adoption outreach events or other locations as needed.
    • Maintains relevant written records of rescued animals and communications made in an attempt to get an animal placed; enters data in the database management system; answers phone and e-mail communication in a timely manner.
    • Fills in for other operational roles. This includes but is not limited to direct animal care, adoption, animal services, and foster care or medical support roles.
    • May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
