If so, you may be the perfect person to become an Electronic Systems Technician with the Data Acquisition & Notification Services team at the Bureau of Environmental Services!

    The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is seeking an Electronic Systems Technician (EST) to join the Data Acquisition & Notification Services (DANS) team.

    The DANS section is located within the Technical Services Group, Environmental Information Division - a technical data hub that supports bureau mission and objectives, such as regulatory compliance, utility design and construction, wastewater and stormwater management, watershed assessment, and pollution control.

    What you’ll get to do:

    • Perform field and office work to support the Hydrological Data Retrieval & Alarming (HYDRA) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition SCADA system created to collect, monitor, report, and manage data from ~200 remote monitoring locations that measure rainfall, sewer level & flow, and pump station operations & alarms.
    • Design, implement, maintain, configure, operate, and troubleshoot data collection, instrumentation, and communication systems.
    • Perform technical duties requiring knowledge of instruments, electronics, wiring and an understanding of SCADA systems, communications, network security for SCADA systems, and SQL database/historian software.

    To Qualify

    Applicants should specifically address and demonstrate in their résumé and supplemental questions how their education, training, and/or experience meet each of the following minimum qualifications:
    Ability to participate in all fieldwork related to data collection, instrumentation, and communication systems in municipal wastewater and stormwater collection and pumping systems.Ability to perform data evaluation and quality assurance/quality control review (QA/QC) using effective troubleshooting skills and judgment.Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting and maintenance.Knowledge of standard practices, National Electric Code, and procedures to install, configure, maintain, calibrate, operate, and apply network security to network-enabled SCADA and communication equipment.Ability to work in and around confined spaces for evaluation, inspection, repair, maintenance, and installation of instrumentation, and at remote monitoring locations including underground pump stations, sewer monitors, and rain gauges.Knowledge of circuitry, series/parallel circuits, batteries, and power supplies, simple circuit and wiring analysis, materials sourcing and purchasing, and understanding of specification sheets.
    Applicants must also possess:
    • A valid State driver's license with an acceptable driving record by date of hire.
    • Limited Energy Class A or B (LEA or LEB) Technician license or obtainable within 6 months of hire.
    • Confined Space Entry certification required post-hire.
    • In-person lift certification required post-hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with panel and cabling assembly.
    • Associate's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or equivalent education, knowledge and skills.
    • Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
