    CHANDLER POLICE DEPARTMENT
    VOLUNTEERS IN POLICING JOB DESCRIPTION
    FORENSIC SERVICES

    The City of Chandler Police Department, Forensic Services Division is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Forensic Services Volunteer. The Forensic Services Volunteers work very closely with Forensic Services staff members in the office and out in the field. Volunteers may be called upon to process crime scene photographs and images, complete crime scene inventories, and assist with other projects. Volunteers will report to the Volunteer Coordinator and assigned Forensic Services Staff Members as needed. TThe work hours or schedules for these positions will vary, with a minimum of 16 hours per month (see Hours section).

    The City of Chandler Police Department, consisting of 362 sworn officers and 177 civilians, serves a growing population of close to 287,945 residents. The organization is divided into three main divisions, one bureau, and many sections/units. The Patrol Operations Division consisting of three precincts, 1) Main Station - Downtown & North Chandler, 2) Desert Breeze - West Chandler, and 3) Chandler Heights - South Chandler, work in concert with the Criminal Investigations Division, Operational Support Division, and Professional Services Division to meet the needs of the community. The members of the Chandler Police Department are dedicated to the advancement of community policing and the development of a partnership with our citizens.     Who we are looking for

    Our ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. Forensic Services Volunteers are assigned tasks that support the division operations. Volunteers in this role must be comfortable working in an environment where they may be exposed to discussions and photographs related to crime scenes. Volunteers will report to the Volunteer Coordinator and assigned Forensic Services Staff Members as needed.

    Qualifications to be a Forensics Services Volunteer:
    • Must be 18 years or older, and
    • Must have completed 2 years of undergraduate study in a Forensic related field.
    • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
    • Must commit to one (1) year of volunteer service in the program.
    • Must commit to working at least 16 hours per month.
    Basic tasks include the ability to:
    • Communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
    • Attend Quarterly VIP Team Meetings.
    • Ability to learn and utilize new systems to enter data.
    • Work effectively and take direction.
    • Stand or sit for long periods; reach, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and turn.
    • Ability to work with various personalities as part of a team.
    • Follow Department and Forensic Services Section policies.
    Advanced tasks will include the ability to:
    • Ability to observe graphic crime scene images.
    • Maintain confidentiality of Criminal Justice and case related information.
    • Complete assigned projects, which may include, but are not limited to, the examples listed below:
      1. Upload crime scene images from DVDs to the Departmental digital image storage system.
      2. Complete Crime Scene Unit Vehicle Inventories.
      3. Complete Forensic Services Section supplies inventories.
      4. Any advanced projects to assist the Unit.
    Hours:
    • Hours are generally flexible; however, they must be scheduled between Monday - Friday 7:00am-5:00pm.

Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
