    CASUAL ASSISTANT RECREATION SERVICES COORDINATOR

    PAY RANGE: $31.65 PER HOUR

    20-25 HOURS/WEEK

    Note: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Seasonal non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than six (6) consecutive months and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

    This position will be based out of the Recreation Building on the Community Center Campus, in the Recreation Services Division of the Department of Library and Recreation Services .

    Essential Job Functions

    May include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Assist in the planning, organizing, marketing, implementing and evaluating community service and/or recreation programs in after school, camp, pre-school, teen leadership or STEAM programs.
    • Supports marketing promotions and strategies, including preparation of brochures, flyers, posters, news releases, social media, and other marketing devices and promotional materials.
    • Acts as liaison to community organizations and schools within assigned program area.
    • Assists with the training and supervision of assigned casual or contract staff.
    • Assists with the recruitment of casual staff.
    • Assists with the scheduling of casual staff.
    • Assists with curriculum/lesson plan building for after school, camp and pre-school.
    • Develops and prepares reports, correspondence and documentation.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to assist participants, co-workers and the public.
    • Prepare activity plans, maintains program files and records and assist with program reports.
    • Work independently and as a team member, recognize and set priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Provide excellent customer service.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books and documents weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. Some duties require incumbents to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

    An Associate's degree or have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter units at an accredited college or university with coursework in recreation/leisure, arts administration, hospitality management, human services, public administration, business administration or a related field; AND One year of experience in recreation programs or other community-based services with some lead or supervisory experience.

    Knowledge of:
    • Recreation, aquatics, arts and community services standards, practices and resources.
    • Common recreational and social needs of various populations and age groups.
    • Principles and practices of program, service and/or facility operations, including the methods and techniques of evaluation and budgeting.
    • Basic mathematics.
    • Office methods, procedures, software, and equipment.
    • Principles of customer service

    Ability to:
    • Assist in the development and implementation of recreation, aquatics, arts and community services programs, services, and facilities.
    • Assist in recruiting, training, and coordinating the work of casual part-time and volunteer staff and program participants.
    • Learn policies and regulations related to assigned program area.

    Willingness to: Work irregular hours or shifts, and on nights, weekends, or holidays when needed.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • One year experience in working/supporting after school, camp, pre-school or STEAM programs.


    Licenses/Certifications:

    Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C CA driver's license and a safe driving record OR the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority.
