Job Description Summary:

The Community Organizer and Support Specialist focuses on mobilizing and engaging local rural communities, building stronger networks, and addressing issues affecting the community. As a specialist, you’ll facilitate dialogue, encourage participation, foster connections within the community, and advocate for change to create meaningful social impact. The role of the Community Organizer and Support specialist is to serve as a bridge between the rural community and local public health. Your advocacy efforts will address cultural competency, equity, and community development. This may include organizing events, workshops, residency boards, and/or advocacy campaigns based on the evolving needs of Jefferson County.

Schedule:

This position operates on our 4 day work week, 40 hours/week. (Monday-Thursday). Position may include occasional evening and weekend work if needed.

Salary:

Anticipated Hire Range: $25.36-$30.99 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills and Equal Work for Equal Pay Considerations.

Essential Duties:

Data Collection and Analysis

  • Conduct research on cultural trends, demographics, and best practices in cultural advocacy.


  • Analyze data and feedback to assess the impact of cultural initiatives and recommend improvements.


  • Understanding the lived experience of priority populations in the county.


Cultural Competency

  • Provide cultural expertise and guidance through trainings to staff and providers that ensures culturally sensitive information to better serve our rural communities.


  • Advocate for cultural equity and inclusion through outreach programs and initiatives.


  • Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to promote cultural understanding and respect.


  • Employing cultural and linguistic responsive practices.


  • Play a critical role in promoting health equity and improving healthcare access for diverse communities.


  • Work to improve health outcomes and ensure equitable healthcare access for rural communities.


Program Development

  • Develop and implement community outreach and engagement strategies


  • Design and implement programs that support cultural diversity, inclusion, and advocacy.


  • Coordinate workshops, events, and campaigns.


  • Providing guidance, consultation and modeling to other members of the Health Equity Team launching similar partner organizations for underserved populations.


  • Implementing evidence-based community mobilization strategies.


  • Develop and manage budgets, timelines, and project plans.


Community Mobilization

  • Health education and resources


  • Monitor cultural policies and regulations that affect the organization or community.


  • Manage resources effectively to support cultural programs and initiatives.


  • Review of internal and external partnerships with providers, community organizations, and policymakers.


Collaboration and Partnership Building

  • Identify and build relationships with community leaders and stakeholders in order to achieve common goals and initiatives.


  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate initiatives into overall organizational strategies.


  • Launching, staffing and facilitating a JCPH Resident Advisory Board. The Resident Advisory Board will meet quarterly and provide qualitative information and guidance to the Health Equity team on the public health needs of community members.


  • Provide a synopsis of important meetings and initiatives to the Health Equity Team and provide recommendations.


  • Supporting and participating in public and partner coalitions focusing on the rural community.


  • Organize and facilitate meetings, events, and workshops to promote dialogue and collaboration


  • Ability to travel locally and regionally to attend meetings or events if necessary. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required .


Training and Education

  • Develop training materials and resources to educate stakeholders and internal staff.


  • Conduct workshops and seminars on cultural awareness and advocacy.


  • Coordinate and lead advocacy campaigns on social and environmental issues


Policy and Resource Management

  • Monitor cultural policies and regulations that affect the organization or community.


  • Manage resources effectively to support cultural programs and initiatives.


  • Help coordinate distribution of resources for residents through community partners and identify resource needs and associated budget.


  • Providing the Health Equity Coordinator and Health Equity Team with situational awareness reports and updated information to support policy decisions and program implementation. Evaluation and Reporting


  • Evaluate the effectiveness of cultural programs and initiatives through metrics and feedback.


  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders on cultural advocacy efforts and outcomes


*In addition, you will engage in specific and specialized projects based on the evolving needs of JCPH. These projects will be assigned on an ongoing basis by the Health Equity Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field including business, healthcare administration, community health or similar


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in health care, Public Health or community health outreach


  • Experience in community organizing or related field


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience executing sales and marketing strategies in healthcare related services and settings.


  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport, uncover needs and opportunities, identify then overcome obstacles, and gain commitment.


  • Familiarity with rural areas, culture, and realities.


  • Customer service orientation. Demonstrated ability to effectively meet client needs, establish trust, and take responsibility for client satisfaction.


  • Demonstrated success in management of partnerships.


  • Demonstrated experience in tracking large amounts of programmatic data and measuring and monitoring trends and changes through analysis of data.


  • Demonstrated successful tracking of project progress and deliverables.


  • Strong problem-solving skills: Ability to address and resolve issues as they arise.


  • Ability to organize & conduct meetings.


  • Experience with collaboration tools.


  • P roficiency with Excel, Outlook, calendars, and other Microsoft Office tools


  • The work requires a high degree of organization, the ability to manage time and resources effectively, and the self-starter ability to work independently to achieve goals


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds


  • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation
