As an Eligibility Specialist, you are a vital member of the Long Term Care team both timely and accurately determining eligibility for public assistance programs to vulnerable clients in addition to providing excellent customer service. Each year over $65 million in benefits are issued by Eligibility Specialists to Long Term Care clients. Programs include but are not limited to Medicaid, Food Assistance, and financial programs. This work involves gathering, reviewing, and inputting data, as well as being able to look at complex financial situations logically to determine eligibility based on that data.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Compensation will be based on education, experience, and skills.

Please note, this is not a case management position.

This position is provided with a hybrid work environment. Some in-office work is required.

The Eligibility Specialist should possess and be able to deliver the following :
  • Excellent customer service provided to internal and external customers and community members.
  • Review and clarify necessary information (via phone, mail, personal contact, and various reports) and take appropriate action within mandated time frames.
  • Ability to think critically and attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data entry and final eligibility results.
  • Effectively communicate face-to-face, in writing, and over the phone with customers, coworkers, and community partners.
  • Identify and assess customers' needs to provide clarification as well as appropriate solutions and alternatives.
  • Resolve customer complaints by determining the root cause and selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem.
  • Ability to be flexible to the changing business needs of the agency.
  • Awareness of and ability to educate customers on available resources in the community.
  • Identify and report potential fraud situations to the Investigations Unit.
  • Prepare and review legal documents for appeal hearings.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Troubleshoot system and case issues as needed.
  • Attend training and pass all required exams to maintain/enhance knowledge and professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate and
  • 1 year of work related experience such as customer service and/or data entry into complex computer databases.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Eligibility/Human services field is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency .

Additional Job Information:
  • Offer of employment contingent on criminal history check, MVR and professional references.
  • Criminal history must not include but not limited to convictions for theft, forgery, counterfeiting, crimes against a person, or other related charges. (Felonies within the last 7 years, misdemeanors within the last 3 years, or a pattern of convictions).
