Summary/Class Characteristics

Parks Maintenance Worker II

The City is currently recruiting for a Parks Maintenance Worker II to fill one (1) vacancy in the Parks and Recreation Department. This recruitment may also be used to fill future Parks Maintenance Worker II vacancies that may occur within the next 12 months.

SALARY AND BENEFITS PACKAGE
  • SALARY RANGE : $63,980.80 - $77,771.20 annually

Summary

Perform landscape and park maintenance duties in parks, medians, and other landscaped areas.

Class Characteristics
General supervision is provided by a higher-level supervisor or manager; responsibilities may include the indirect supervision of support staff.

The journey-level class in this series, fully competent to perform the full range of park and landscape maintenance duties. This class is distinguished from Parks Maintenance Lead Worker who provides direction and work review to several Parks Maintenance Workers and/or crews.

Duties

Perform general grounds maintenance of raking, sweeping, garbage pick up, and rest room cleaning

Mow, edge, trim, aerate, fertilize, and renovate large and small turf areas.

Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems.

Performs various operational and maintenance duties on City pools.

Perform pest control operations using Integrated Pest Maintenance (IPM) techniques, which include identification and diagnoses of pest problems.

Maintain, construct, and repair park structures.

Keep tools & equipment in proper working order.

Identify and report safety hazards.

Assist with maintenance of City pools.

Respond to questions and complaints from the public.

Use of equipment to include, but not limited to, dump trucks, tractors, riding mowers, walk behind mowers, edger’s, chain saws, weed eaters, and blowers.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Theories, principles, methods, materials, and equipment used in landscape cultivation and park maintenance.

Safety practices and procedures relating to the work.

Recordkeeping methods related to the work.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Experience:

Experience in landscape and park maintenance, and/or course work in horticulture, or landscape maintenance and construction. Two years of experience in landscape and park maintenance, and/or course work in horticulture, or landscape maintenance and construction at a level equivalent to the Park Maintenance Worker I class.

Certifications/Licenses:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.

Possession of a valid Qualified Applicators Certificate or License is desirable.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to perform heavy physical labor, including having sufficient strength to lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 90 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud depending on working conditions.
