Job Description

Introduction

This position in the Fire Department provides technical supervisory services and mid to high-level technical software support to users to improve and enhance computer systems to meet specific assigned functional area's business needs. Work primarily focuses team task and project management as well as hands on work to support software and hardware used by the Fire Department as well as data analytics using SQL reporting, use of Power BI, Visual Studio (SSIS), and supporting Fire Records Management and similar systems. This role also does testing, evaluation, acquisition, installation and support of software, related hardware, and some telecommunication systems. Updates and maintains computer systems or programs and databases by troubleshooting, problem analysis, and provides advice to improved productivity and better integration of technology into business operations. Project management skills, the ability to prioritize and pivot are all key components needed in this position. The most successful candidates for this role will have a strong grasp of data analytics, team leadership, and report development.

Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Five years of experience directly working on computer-based information systems' software, with a focus on system administration and management including programming/scripting languages in support of medium to large enterprise applications.
  • One year of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.


Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area within a department(s) which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Provides daily management and supervision of technical staff within the division. This includes the coordination of all activities of the staff, including mentoring, training, scheduling, making hiring decisions and developing written performance evaluations; works with employees to correct deficiencies and implements discipline procedures.
  • Assumes the role of technology leader within the division, including planning for technical projects, assigning staff to projects, and presenting information to departmental management.
  • Serves as a liaison, maintains relationships and fosters communication with the Information Technology Division.
  • Works within the assigned department and provides application support on the designated systems.
  • Evaluates and analyzes assigned functional area related processes, procedures, and workflow to determine the feasibility of different technology options and solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Assists in system analysis, computer configuration, planning and training of employees on the assigned functional area's automated systems to ensure optimal performance of the systems.
  • Participates on technology project teams; coordinates between IT staff and departmental staff to ensure business needs are being implemented appropriately; fulfills tasks within various project plans.


Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Lift and move computer equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Travel to meetings and/or various locations as required.
  • Provide emergency response to reduce downtime.
  • Perform off-hours scheduled maintenance downtime.
  • Work on call on a scheduled and as needed basis.
