Job Description

Full-time position available with the Water Department, Pipeline Division located at 2409 E. 18th St.
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes GIS Maps for identifying and locating assets needed for repairs/replacement, valves and fire hydrants needed for water main shuts.
  • Must be flexible and quickly adapt to ever changing situations, working beyond the scheduled shift, off hours, inclement weather and being available for On-Call.
  • Utilizess physical activity and critical thinking skills, displaying motivation and drive to complete tasks without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn the Distribution System, the numerous types of existing water assets in service and the appropriate repairs in accordance with KC Water Services Dept. S.O.I.
  • Performs water main test shuts, assisting contractors with water main shuts.
  • Coordinates shut times with our consumers, giving notifications to both residential and businesses for water outages.
  • Utilizes metal detectors to locate Water assets, operating valves and fire hydrants,
  • Utilizes Hansen to access work order information, assigning work orders to contractors, etc.



Qualifications

REQUIRES high school graduation. Must possess a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Preference given to applicants with underground utility construction experience or experience in the operation of municipal water distribution systems.

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
