Pay Range: $27.52/hr. - $34.40/hr.

Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday 7am - 4pm; Some evening/weekend work required.

The Transportation & Public Works Department, ROW Management Department, is seeking to hire a Senior Construction Inspector for its Utility group. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading staff, reviewing and understanding plans, as well as overseeing construction projects involving franchise/telecom utility construction, including concrete and asphalt paving for conformance with City policies and specifications. This individual will establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, the general public and other employees. The Candidate should be a responsible, dependable and extremely detail oriented individual who is willing to grow and expand their knowledge base. The candidate must also have a good grasp of the role of serving the public.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS diploma/GED supplemented by college level course work in Engineering, Architecture Construction or a related field and three years of Construction Inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public works systems and structures.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Must pass Drug Screen & Physical

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A strong interpersonal, management, and excellent communications skills with the unique ability to be able to transfer these concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing with the general public and internal City staff
  • Experience in Accela reviewing and issuing permits and resulting inspections
  • Knowledge and expertise of Small Cell and 5G construction/installation
  • Experience in construction and/or inspection of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) construction
  • Two or more years of paving restoration experience, HMAC and Concrete
  • Experience using the following software applications: Accela, CRM - Customer Relationship Management System, MS Word, Excel and Outlook

The Sr Construction Utility Inspector job responsibilities include:
  • Leads staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; as well as ensuring staff is trained properly

  • Inspects product installation and final restoration in a variety of Utility projects for compliance with City standards and policies
  • All utility inspections are entered into Accela and non-inspection activities into Customer Service Request (CSR) program
  • Coordinates construction inspection activities with other city departments
  • Acts as liaison between contractors, and the general public with respect to various construction projects
  • Promote, establish, and maintain effective working relationships; and
  • Previews plans and traffic control for assigned projects prior to inspection
  • Prepare daily inspection route list
  • Performs routine and final inspections on utility construction projects
  • Read and interpret plans involving Franchise Utility Construction

WORKING CONDITIONS

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
