The Position

Parole & Probation Specialists perform technical duties in administrative functions and units, which do not require peace officer status. Duties include casework services, investigations, tracking and monitoring assigned parolees and probationers, pre-sentence investigations, determination of restitution and supervision fees, and referral services for the assigned unit. Positions in this series obtain and verify information; prepare and process case files and recommend appropriate action; and monitor offender activities. Incumbents are not Peace Officer's Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified and do not perform law enforcement functions such as conducting field inspections of offenders' worksite or residence, conducting surveillance, searches and arrests, or transporting prisoners to court or detention facilities.

Under general direction, incumbents plan, organize, coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities of a large staff of Parole & Probation Specialist IIIs and IVs. Incumbents may be required to write pre-sentence investigation reports, but the primary focus at this level is to review the work of lower level Parole & Probation Specialists.

The Parole and Probation Division (NPP) is recruiting to fill a Parole and Probation Supervisor vacancy at the Reno office. This position will supervise the Parole and Probation Specialists IIIs and IV's assigned to the Carson City, Fallon, Winnemucca, Ely and Elko offices. This position will remotely supervise and occasionally travel to the rural offices to manage the specialists assigning cases, reviewing and approving work, and providing guidance to employees in the preparation of pre-sentence investigation reports. This position will oversee tracking and management of cases to ensure that reports are being completed on time and routed to each prospective Court within Division and State deadlines. This position will also prepare work performance standards, conduct timely employee performance appraisals, and issue discipline according to State guidelines as needed; and will train new staff. This position supervises two Specialist IV?s who serve to train new employees and read and approve reports. The incumbent may also be required to occasionally attend court, interact with Judges and attorneys, and act as an intermediary between the Division and the Courts.
