What’s the Job?
The Austin Animal Services Center is seeking someone who will share our commitment to deliver exceptional service and care to our guests on a daily basis while making sure their space remains clean and the guests remain happy and active. You’ll need to be able to work on the weekends or holidays when most people visit our adoption center. The Animal Care Worker is responsible for feeding, walking, exercising, and bathing animals as needed; bring animals to and from the kennel during check-in and check-out times; clean up after animals both inside the facility and outside, clean animal runs and cages as needed; and maintain the guest buildings as a whole by performing tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping/mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, and checking equipment and supplies.

Safety and or Physical Requirements: Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking and carrying or using a force equal to lifting fifty pounds or heavier. Must be able to work outdoors and in extreme weather conditions.

Pay Range
$20.80 - $22.88

Hours
Tuesday - Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Schedule is subject to change based on business needs.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


Cleans, disinfects and maintains shelter areas as assigned. Feeds, waters, bathes, dips and exercises animals. Provides humane sheltering services in compliance with State minimum standards and shelter policies. Safely and humanely handles animals, of unknown health and temperament. Assists in monitoring the medical/behavioral status of animals and performs related health care activities. Contributes to the programs and services that support the shelter’s live outcome goal. Loads dead animals onto trucks. Ensures the safety of animals and people in the shelter. Accurately maintains all required records in the shelter’s database. Provides information to the public. Assists in unloading trucks, stocking shelter areas and storing materials. Assists in preparation, transport and documentation of specimens for rabies testing. Maintains facility and grounds in a clean, neat and organized manner.
