  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related field, plus three (3) years of relevant experience, including one (1) years of experience which was in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.

What is the Job?:
The Animal Services Supervisor serves as a co-supervisor for the Animal Care Unit at the Austin Animal Municipal Shelter. The two supervisors will collectively split the responsibility of providing hiring, support, and training for the Animal Care staff. They will also be responsible for various tasks including Administrative and/or Operational support as part of the Austin Animal Center Leadership Team.The position will plan, assign, and supervise work of assigned program staff and will provide advice, counsel, training and support for animal caretakers and volunteers to provide daily, consistent exercise and enrichment for animals waiting for permanent homes. Assist in developing policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility. Assist in budget preparation and utilization and tracking of resources. Performing administrative functions and special projects. Coordinate with other units and assist with scheduling. Maintain clear and accurate records. Contribute to the programs and services that support the shelter’s live outcome goal.

All positions in the Animal Services Office are designated as essential. Essential employees are defined as employees who, by virtue of their presence, specialized function or necessary skills, are essential to the meeting of business or certain operational needs and are, therefore, required to report to duty during events of emergency closure of City operations.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Pay Range
$27.16 - $32.87 per hour
Hours
Training schedule will vary. Once training is completed, regular schedule will start with Wednesday through Saturday, 6am - 4pm.

This schedule is subject to change as needed and/or requested. Requested schedule changes will need manager approval.

Austin Animal Center staff are considered essential and may be required to work weekends, holidays, and days when other City departments are closed.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


Coordinates unit activities with other divisions by evaluating operational needs and assignment of work activities. Develops operating procedures. Tracks operating information and write technical reports. Ensures compliance with unit procedures, policies, and protocols. Resolves customer conflicts and provides options to ensure customer satisfaction. Develops, revises, and implements standard operation practices, policies, and procedures for the unit. Determines goals, objectives, and resources requirements for the activities of the unit. Prepares performance measures, data, and reports for management review. Assists with planning, developing, organizing, evaluating, and monitoring the unit’s budget. Plans, develops, organizes, evaluates, manages, and monitors the unit’s programs, projects, and activities. Orders supplies, maintains inventory, makes purchases, monitors contracts, and recommends capital expenditures. Maintains and updates automated record keeping and files. Prepares, as necessary, notifications for the news media.

  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
