Job Appointment: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri. 11am - 7pm. This position may require occasional work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position Summary: The City of Portland’s Bureau of Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Recreation Leader - Arts Specialtyat the Multnomah Arts Center. We are seeking a qualified candidate to support our performing arts programs unique to our facilities, which include programs in music, theatre, dance, and literary arts.

What you'll get to do:
  • Provide guidance and training to recreation support staff, instructors, and volunteers, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to support performing arts programs effectively.
  • Utilize and maintain specialized performing arts equipment, including professional lighting and sound boards, AV recording equipment, microphones, amplifiers, musical instruments, and more. Ensure all equipment is safely used and in good working order.
  • Set up, support, and maintain performing arts studios and performance spaces, ensuring they are safe, clean, and ready for use by instructors, students, and the public.
  • Work directly with the public to provide instruction, answer questions, and support the overall functioning of performing arts programs.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as registration, scheduling, and responding to inquiries, helping to ensure smooth program operation.
  • Lead instructors in providing and be able to substitute teach in a variety of performing arts classes and programs, ensuring that participants of all ages and skill levels have a positive and educational experience.
  • Promote equity and inclusion while working with a broad range of individuals and communities with diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

To Qualify

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position: Knowledge of current trends, techniques and principles related to performing arts production and instruction.Ability to repair and maintain specialized performing arts equipment which could include items such as live A/V equipment, A/V recording equipment, stage lighting instruments, portable stages, acoustical shells, basic musical instrument maintenance and repairs, electronic equipment maintenance and repairs, etc.Experience in the safe working practices specific to specialized performing arts equipment and studio spaces.Ability to effectively instruct a variety of performing arts related classes.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with center and other recreation staff, city employees, program participants, and the public.
