Job Description

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the appropriate administrator or designee, the Lead Irrigation Specialist is responsible for common area and landscape irrigation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains, modifies, repairs, and replaces damaged heads, risers, lines, and valves. Trouble shoot irrigation system wiring and irrigation controllers. Installs new irrigation systems.
  • Provide general direction and training to other Irrigation Specialist and Grounds staff personnel assigned to assist in routine maintenance, repairs, installation activities and projects.
  • Accurately track labor, materials for work using the proper work order for tracking purposes. Provide daily report of irrigation issues and what was done on campus (to be emailed at the end of shift). Make sure irrigation crew is entering daily labor and run reports if needed.
  • Construction project inspection, plan review (such as reading blueprints), interfacing with contractors. Communicating with management of issues that come up in field.
  • Working knowledge of automated central irrigation system. CSULB has the Rainmaster Central Irrigation System. Specialist is expected to be familiar with operation and programming. Coordinating with Leads and Pest Specialist on fertilizer applications, irrigation program shutdowns, Mainlines or backflows that have been turned off.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The candidate is knowledgeable about various types of sprinkler heads, spray patterns, valves, atmospheric breakers, and water pressure for all campus systems. They are skilled in using both mechanical and manual pipe threading devices and are familiar with all types of fittings, pipes, and related materials used in sprinkler systems. Additionally, they possess essential knowledge of plant soil requirements.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a high school diploma and two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or general grounds, with one year in the maintenance, repair, or modification of irrigation systems and irrigation equipment required.

Physical Summary
  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

CA Driver's License required.

• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,907 - $6,375 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
