Summary

Located four miles northeast of downtown El Paso, Texas, El Paso International Airport is the busiest commercial hub in West Texas, also serving Southern New Mexico and Northern Mexico. In 2023, it facilitated over two million enplaned passengers and 1.8 million deplaned passengers, managing a total of 96,316 departing and arriving flights. The airport hosts several commercial airlines, including Southwest, United, Delta, American Airlines, Frontier, Allegiant, Alaska, Mesa Airlines, SkyWest Airlines, and Horizon Air. The airport employs 234 full-time employees.

Job Description

The City of El Paso is seeking an Aviation Director to manage and direct the operations of El Paso International Airport including business and financial operations, airfield and building maintenance, capital improvement programs and long-range planning. This position reviews and evaluates service delivery methods and systems, responds to and resolves sensitive and complex inquiries including requests of the City Manager, Mayor, and Council, and provides administrative direction and supervision to staff. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances governing commercial aviation operations.

The City of El Paso offers a market competitive total reward package that includes a base salary ranging from $108,740 to $201,600, and a comprehensive benefits package to include participation in the City of El Paso Employees Retirement Trust; voluntary enrollment in a 457b plan; health insurance; life insurance; tuition reimbursement; and vacation, personal, and sick leave. Employees have access to an on-site wellness clinic which offers select healthcare services at no cost to City employees in the health insurance plan. A vehicle allowance of up to $4,200 ($350 per month) or an airport-issued vehicle is included. Relocation assistance may be available.

Job Requirements

This position requires a bachelor's degree in business, public or aviation administration, or a related field, and eight (8) years’ airport administration or operations experience, including four (4) years in a managerial capacity. Certification by the American Association of Airport Executives as an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) or certification as an International Airport Professional (IAP) from Airports Council International (ACI) is desired.

The selected candidate must possess a Texas Class "C" driver's license or equivalent from another state. Residency within the El Paso city limits is required. Additionally, the selected candidate must pass a criminal background check, TSA background check, and obtain and maintain a federally mandated security clearance for working at an airport.
