Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE:A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Failure to submit the Application or Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

THE AGENCY

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, strips, waxes, refinishes and shampoos various types of floors in an assigned area; may also be assigned to general janitorial duties; and, performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

The equivalent of six months of full-time janitorial experience in offices or an institution and completion of floor care training.

OR

Experience:

The equivalent of six months of direct floor care experience that included carpet, tile or finished concrete.

License:

A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

Special Requirement:

May be required to obtain and maintain security clearance.

May be assigned to work day, evening, night and rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:
  • Modern janitorial methods, materials and equipment, including the proper use of power-driven waxing and buffing machines, soaps, detergents, disinfectants, cleaning compounds, extractors, carpet machines and pressure washers.
  • Safety practices and procedures related to floor care.

Ability to:
  • Communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform repetitive tasks without continuous supervision.
  • Prioritize.
  • Work effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Correctly and safely use janitorial materials, products and equipment.
  • Lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Learn basic computer skills.
  • Work with limited or no on-site supervision.


EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

The examination will consist of the following steps:
A review of applicants' applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. A performance component that will be weighted at 100% of the final examination score.
Candidates must attain a qualifying rating of each portion of this examination.
