A Database Administrator job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department’s Management Services Division in its Water IT Section. This position will work in the Water IT section and will be part of the Data Systems Team that supports all business and operational data needs on a 24/7/365 basis for the Fort Worth Water Utility. This position will provide direct oversite and administration of databases utilized by applications in use by Water Utility personnel while ensuring the security and integrity of data.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major courses work in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, or a related technology field.
  • Five (5) years of responsible experience with information systems, technical support work, data base administration, or related fields.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Microsoft SQL server and Oracle Certified Database Administrator.
  • Experience managing DB2 databases.
  • Experience supporting database environments within a local government/water utility.
  • Data warehousing and business intelligence experience.
  • Experience creating reporting environments from database sources. (SSIS packages and SSRS reporting.)

The Database Administrator - Water IT job responsibilities include:
  • Manage database environments that include SQL, Oracle, DB2 and system specific (proprietary) databases.
  • Ensure database systems run effectively and securely on a daily basis.
  • Design, install, and maintain standards and manage SQL/Oracle databases.
  • Ensure data access, security, backup, and recovery.
  • Schedule and carry out performance tuning and capacity monitoring of database systems. (Standby, failover, and administration.)
  • Install, upgrade, and manage database server environments.
  • Develop processes for optimizing database security.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
  • Work with the data team to provide data for use by internal customers and data systems.
  • Develop, test, improve, and maintain new and existing databases to help users retrieve data effectively and efficiently.
  • Design, develop, implement and manage SQL server business intelligence solutions using SSIS and SSRS solutions.
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Identify and create automation for repeatable database tasks.
  • Develop and maintain database documentation utilized by enterprise level and in-house developed applications.
  • Identify and incorporate non-enterprise level databases into enterprise level database systems.
