CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Coaching Specialist -12mo

TIMEBASE/POSITION TYPE: Temporary, Part-Time

APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: July 2024

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Department of Athletics of the California State University Maritime Academy is accepting applications for a part-time Rugby Coach. Although this position will remain open until filled, review of applications will begin immediately. ABOUT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY (Cal Maritime): Located on a compact but scenic waterfront campus in Vallejo, California (30 miles northeast of San Francisco), California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) is a unique and specialized campus of the 23-campus system. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and execution of all aspects of the Men’s and Women’s intercollegiate Rugby program’s competing as a member of the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) and US Rugby. The employee must be committed to promoting academic and athletic achievement and personal growth of student-athletes in a way that is fully integrated with the mission and vision of Cal Maritime athletics

  • All phases of preparation for competition, including conducting practices, program development, and establishment of a strong academic support environment.
  • Creating practice and game schedules
  • Monitor and promote the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.
  • Experience with alumni relations and creating fundraising.
  • Provide oversight for set up and breakdown of competition fields.
  • Coordinates with Sports Information Director regarding schedules rosters and other social media assistance.
  • Develop and manage programs budget.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One-year successful Rugby coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level
  • Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Experience using Concur for travel and reconciliation.

SALARY COMPENSATION:
  • Hiring salary is anticipated at $6,227 per month ($2,075.66/ Monthly-0.33FTE) commensurate with education and experience.
  • CSU Salary Range: $6,227- $11,088 per month

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
  • This position is a “designated position” in the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
  • This position requires a valid California driver’s license to enable the driving of Cal Maritime vehicles and tools which include but are not limited to outboard motors, hand tools, truck towing, power tools, diesel engines, and Rugby carts. The incumbent will be required to travel to other geographic locations and work some evenings and weekends.
  • Completion of the CSU Defensive Driving Training Class.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • On the job, the employee is exposed to marked changes in temperature and/or humidity.
  • The duties require moderate to active physical activity.
  • The role requires regularly working outdoors and being routinely exposed to the sun. The position may be exposed to extreme heat or cold and rain, in addition to working on uneven, slippery surfaces.
  • Typical classroom and office environments are in a two-story building with elevator access.
