The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This potion will provide support services to inmates in a correctional setting including assessments and psycho-educational classes. The mental health professional will provide case management and behavioral/human service to persons with mental illness. The mental health professional will provide crisis intervention and de-escalation of crisis situations with the offenders. Incumbents at this level provide full clinical and administrative supervision to at least one Licensed Psychologist I, in addition to providing a broad range of psychological services described in the series concept. Licensed Psychologist II positions are also responsible for a psychological services program or unit and may also supervise professional clinical staff and support personnel. Positions at this level typically report to a Medical Director, Clinical Program Manager or Division Administrator and oversee psychological services provided at the agency to which assigned. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations Special Requirements Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
