The Position

Within the Governor's Finance Office (GFO), Executive Branch Budget Officers develop, analyze and make recommendations on biennial budgets and expenditures for all executive budgets; analyze agency staffing ratios and historical data in relation to population growth, economic conditions, national trends and standards and other pertinent information; make evaluative judgments regarding the efficiency of agency operations, effectiveness in reaching established goals and objectives, organizational structure, and legislative intent; review and analyze budget requests and adjustments; and ensure compliance with budgetary directives, policies, regulations and limitations.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The Governor's Finance Office is recruiting for an Executive Branch Budget Officer 1, geographically located in Carson City, Nevada. Budget Officers prepare and implement budgets for one or more agencies; develop expenditure projections, narrative justification of programs, and detailed biennial spending plans; analyze budget requests and adjustments; monitor assigned budget accounts and oversees budgets; analyze and approve contracts; analyze requests to change legislatively approved work programs; review and apply budgetary approval for changes to position control; all while ensuring compliance with budgetary directives, policies, regulations, and limitations. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and provide work direction and training to others. This position is subject to Flexible/Rotating Shifts and requires extensive overtime from September 1st through January 31st every other year to prepare the Governor Recommended Budget, plus may be subject to overtime throughout the rest of the year. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, accounting, finance, economics, or closely related field and five years of professional budgeting, accounting, economic or management analysis and projection, or auditing experience, one year of which was equivalent to a Budget Analyst III in Nevada State service; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Services Officer II, Budget Analyst III, or Executive Branch Auditor I in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as Management Analyst III in Nevada State service to include budget responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Additional Position Criteria A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position is subject to flexible/rotating shifts.
