Job Description

General Recruitment Information

Under close supervision, this role entails training in supervising inmates and maintaining security at the Lake County Correctional Facility. Duties include learning procedures for inmate care, custody, and confinement, overseeing work assignments and recreational activities, and completing assigned tasks as necessary.

Additional Information

Female Deputy Sheriff Corrections

$20,000.00 for female Deputy Sheriff Corrections. The $20,000.00 hiring incentive will apply to a maximum of 8 female Deputy Sheriff Correction new hires.

Any person accepting the hiring incentive will agree to remain employed with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for three (3) years.
  • Hiring Incentive Payments shall be made as follows:
    • $5,000.00 at the time of hire
    • $7,500.00 upon completion of one year of employment
    • $7,500.00 at the beginning of the third year of employment


The current vacancy must be filled with a female officer to ensure compliance with facility staffing requirements under California Penal Code 4021 (Female Only is a bona fide job qualification)

Minimum Qualifications

DEPUTY SHERIFF - CORRECTIONS I - FEMALE ONLY

Licensing and Certifications:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver’s License. A driver’s license from another state may be accepted at the time of hire if the applicant acknowledges his/her responsibility to acquire a California driver’s license as required by law.

Completion of a Basic Jail Operations Course approved by S.T.C. must be accomplished within six (6) months of initial employment.

Completion of P.C. 832 and weapons training is required within 120 days of initial employment.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Previous experience working within a correctional system or in a position having substantial public contact is highly desirable.

HEALTH AND INSURANCE BENEFITS - Medical, dental, hospital, vision, life and disability coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The County contributes $1,000 of the monthly premiums for the insurance plan options.

VACATION ACCRUAL may be adjusted for current city or county government employees.

VACATION - 80 hours per year during the first five years of service, 120 hours per year after five years, and additional accruals based on years of service beyond fifteen years. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

SICK LEAVE - Accrues at a rate of 96 hours per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

HOLIDAYS- An average of twelve paid 8-hour holidays per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

SALARY - Lake County has an adopted salary schedule. The salary range for most classifications is in five increments with a provision for longevity increases. Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range.

SOCIAL SECURITY - County employees participate in Social Security.

CALIFORNIA STATE DISABILITY INSURANCE - SDI is available to some County employees.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLANS and CREDIT UNION MEMBERSHIPS are available to County employees.
