Position Overview

The City of Atlanta Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is currently hiring a Social Media Support. We are seeking an engaged and detail-oriented candidate to support the management of DPR-owned social media channels to promote parks and recreational programs, events, facilities, and initiatives. They will work closely with the DPR Communications Team to create engaging content, manage social media accounts, and interact with the community online.

The successful candidate should possess excellent verbal and written skills with an in-depth knowledge of the functions of social media and the social media platforms used by DPR (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter). They should also be committed to staying on top of social media trends and innovations to incorporate best practices into their work.

As a member of this dynamic office, the Social Media Support will work closely with the wider Communications Team to create, source, and adapt content for publication on DPR platforms. This role reports to the Director, Communications & External Affairs. If you are passionate about parks, recreation, and the strategic use of social media, we want you on our team!

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of social media strategies to increase awareness and engagement with DPR programming and events.
  • Create and curate compelling content for social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Manage social media accounts by scheduling posts, engaging with community members, responding to inquiries, and foster positive relationships with stakeholders online.
  • Work closely with Communications Team to align social media efforts with overall messaging priorities.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in social media marketing and incorporate innovative ideas into the DPR social media strategy.
  • Track and analyze social media metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, platform updates, and emerging technologies to optimize social media performance.
  • Manage and support the development of social media content calendar.
  • Monitor the social media publications of City of Atlanta departments and offices, supporting their efforts where possible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience in Social Media, Marketing, Promotions, or related field.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver results in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Solutions-oriented approach to communication.
  • Experience creating and editing video, photo and other content that respects basic design principles and brand guidelines.
  • Sound judgement.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain flexible work hours, including capturing and publishing content evenings and weekends.
